Main Street, November 1972

It's time for another "meh" Sunday. How will we know we are having a good day unless we have a few bad days, amirite?

Main Street Station is bathed in the reddish glow of a nearby star. There's no hint of Christmas yet, so I am guessing that these were taken a month or two before November '72. Still, the sun is almost gone at 5:30, so that tells us something. Don't ask me what, though. I want to build a 1:1 replica of this train station using only Legos.

How hard would it be to make a horse out of Legos? They're awfully lumpy and don't have many straight lines. Stupid horses! It's a conspiracy. I love Town Square at this time of day, in fact I could sit on that bench and wait until the twinkle lights come on. Any second now!

  1. Nice glow on the Main Street Station.

The Horse Drawn Street Car appears to be headed towards the Plaza, but I see no Adventureland entrance or Plaza Pavilion. Maybe I'm too tired to figure it out.

  2. @ K. Martinez-

It's a different kind of Town Square - Central Plaza, or more commonly: The Hub kind. Either way - I'm with the Major - I can easily while away the hours on that bench.

    Thanks, Major.

  3. The hitching post behind the trolley looks white, do you think it is? After the amount of time that you've been posting old Disneyland photos, you probably have a good idea of if or when the hitching posts changed colors over the years, if they did. Have you ever done a post on that subject? if so please post a link to it i'd love to know the details.

  4. K. Martinez and Nanook, I must have written that post while barely looking at the photo! Lazy. But thanks for keeping me honest… you are right, it is the hub and not Town Square.

Brian, I have certainly seen the hitching posts painted white in other photos, and I guess they have been a kind of dark green at some point, but I've never looked into when the change was made. Now I'll have to pay more attention!

  5. @Nanook - Yes, both ends have a park like setting in their center which the Main Street vehicles travel around. The whole Main Street transportation system is based on a dogbone layout which I love.

I have rested in that very spot many times through the years, but for some reason Town Square feels quieter and more relaxing to me.

I still haven't been able to figure out where the Adventureland and Frontierland entrances are in this image. Lots and lots of trees is what I see, which is nice.

It may be another "meh" Sunday, but the pics are not. I love 'em. Thanks, Major.

Something wonderful about that first photo. The gold glow perhaps. Time to relax and sit a spell. Isn’t that the most manicured hedge (in front of the station) that you have ever seen?

  7. Just add happy Linda; she cheers up any 1970's picture.

  8. K. Martinez, the streetcar is blocking just enough so that it is hard to see the entrances. I kind of think the Adventureland entrance is right about where the Omnibus is.

SundayNight, the golden glow is nice, but I would have liked the photo better if the train had been at the station.

Melissa, I need happy Linda to follow me wherever I go, like a hitchhiking ghost.
