Some Reruns

You know, if reruns are good enough for TV networks and cable channels, they are good enough for me. And hopefully for you too.

This is one of my favorite shots of Main Street USA, from February 1960. It's colorful, and an unusual angle to boot. With the castle out of view, this feels like a photo of an exceptionally clean, candy-colored midwestern Main Street.

The Rainbow Desert is a harsh and unforgiving environment. In this case, it's not the humidity, it's the heat. You can see the little pueblos on top of the rock formations - there is even a building atop one of the "tumbling" rocks to the left!

The big blue submarine lagoon is an impressive sight, even when it is devoid of subs. Is it true that the lagoon in Florida was actually smaller than this one? I find that hard to believe.

These made me dizzier than the Wiggle-Vision® posts.

  2. teehee!

fav bits: the biplane and those fish people critters on the loading dock for the subs! LOL

(and skewering the cliches with, "it's not the humidity, it's the heat")

These are great, you put in a lot of details and a nice polish.

  3. April 1st is always my favorite day at GDB. Not only do I always enjoy the incredibly well-executed imagery, I feel relieved of the responsibility of having to think up something ridiculous to say.

Well done, sir - well done.

  4. It doesn't get any better than Godzilla and the Creature from the Black Lagoon in the same pic! Great job with all of them Major! But isn't your shoe untied?

  5. The Valley of Gwangi! I love it. You can even see the pole lines in the background.

Then there's Bruce, Gill-man and the sextopus hanging out in the Submarine Lagoon while the sea monkey couple wait in line for a ride on Submarine Voyage.

It seems Godzilla is too occupied to wreak havoc on Disneyland.

Am I wrong, or is that Orville Wright in the first pic, high in the sky?

  11. D-ticket, do not operate heavy machinery.

Chiana, those are the mom and dad from the Sea Monkey family!

    Thanks, Chuck and Gojira…

K Martinez, I was going for a Valley of Gwangi vibe, but I had to use the dinos from 10 Million BC, since I couldn't find decent quality jpegs from Gwangi. In fact, even the dinos I used are pretty low-res. But you get a gold star anyway!

VDT, getting up at 5am, OOG. You are a better man that I am!

Melissa, what is reality? Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream?

Nannok, if you see a babushka in the 2nd pic, please tell me where it is!

Bill, yes, that is Orville! That first pic is my favorite, I took people from genuine old photos (procured from the amazing Shorpy.com) and worked them into the 1960 photo. In some cases the old photos were of such high quality that I had to apply a slight blur to make them fit in with the look of the newer picture.

Nancy and Snow White Archive, thank you!
