Instamatical

It's time for some more "Instamatic" masterpieces! I hope you are wearing your smoking jacket and monocle.

Do you love to travel, but can't bear to leave your mutt or kitty at home all alone?  Luckily, they can come with you to Disneyland and stay in the Ken-L-Ration Pet Motel. Free wi-fi and HBO.  That sign is all kinds of awesome. Maybe if I get tired in middle of the day, I'll stay in one of those kennels myself.

I always imagined that the life of a crab was a lot of laughs, but after extensive research I've learned that they typically spend half their time grappling, half their time skirmishing, and half their time fighting. Thanks, interwebs!

I am trying to figure out what vantage point this photo was taken from. This is before there was the overpass in front of "Pirates" (and maybe even before that attraction was built), but clearly the camera was above eye level quite a bit. Any ideas? Could this be from the Golden Horseshoe's outdoor, upper balcony?

  1. Maybe my memories are becoming jumbled or distorted, but wasn't there something about gliding monorails to Tomorrowland and barking dogs?

The last photograph was taken from the stairs leading up to the old Frontierland Railroad Station. Here's a link to a 1962 photograph posted in August 2009 on Daveland which shows the area (including the sign in the left-hand side of the photograph) from the opposite angle:

You folks are amazing at figuring out locations, angles, etc.! Any chance you could look at some pics I have from the grassy knoll in Dallas?

    Love this site!!

  4. K. Martinez, the only barking Disney dogs I can think of were from the "twilight bark" part of 101 Dalmatians.

Pegleg Pete, good one! I wouldn't have guessed that the picture was taken from that far east. Neat!

  5. I'm pretty sure it was either from the Railroad or the Monorail you could hear barking dogs from the Ken-L-Land motel when passing by.

  6. Love the convenient fire hydrant in front of the pet hotel.

Just think of it. 25 cents to board a pet for the day. Plus 25 cents fo a can of food if requested.

  8. Is the Kennel even there anymore? I remember always hearing the barking dogs as the train would leave Primeval World, but haven't heard it for quite some time.

  9. Bill, I agree, GDB readers are pretty smart!

    K. Martinez, wow, I wish I had that memory of barking dogs while aboard the train or Monorail!

Melissa, ha ha, I didn't even notice that hydrant. Funny!

Anon, was it really just 25 cents a day?!?! Amazing. Meanwhile I have heard that there is a pet care facility at WDW in which they will read a bedtime story to your dog or cat, for a fee of course.

TokyoMagic!, according the the official website, there is still a "Disneyland Kennel Club" . $20 a day, not so terrible if you ask me.

  10. Yes, that view of the Mark Twain is taken from the Frontierland/ New Orleans Squrae Train Station--it has to be 1966 or after, as the French Market band Stand is seen to the right.

  11. Not going to argue against the Frontierland Station statements, makes sense to me! My first guess was from Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse with the building to the right being River Belle Terrace.
