Here are two more from December 30, 1969!
You can't ignore the mighty Matterhorn in either of today's photos, since it towers above both scenes. The Christmas star is included at no extra charge! I believe that this first picture was taken from the upper level of the Carousel of Progress building. Notice that the Skyway buckets in the foreground are actually lower than we are! There's the wonderful Tomorrowland Stage, and the Peoplemover too.
Next, a beautiful, colorful view from Fantasyland, with Tiimothy Mouse atop his mirrored disco ball while the Dumbos twirl around him.
Wow! These are so gorgeous! The star on top of the Matterhorn used to rotate!

I believe Major recently noted that the Matterhorn actually turned underneath the Star - seems like that covers most of the options. Looks terrific from any perspective!

Great shot of t-land and comforting to see massive crowds around the holidays (back in the day)lest we feel bad about the massive crowds now (around the holidays).
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see these shots it makes me wonder (or Oneder)how the heck they got that giant pot scrubber up there? Anyone know of photos anywhere that shows that?
I don't think even Rudi Matt could haul that thing up in a rucksack.

Alonzo, it is still amazing to look at Jason's Disneyland Almanac and see how low the attendance was on MANY days, sometimes less than 5000 (and in rare cases less than 1000). And I have seen that photo of Santa on the mountain before, it looks like he's standing on a coffee table.

ReplyDeleteI got to wondering about what the star looked like when it was lit so I went to Daveland's page, but alas there didnt seem to be any shots of the star lit, but he has some awesome close-ups of how beautiful it truly is.
Does anyone know of a picture of the Matterhorn star taken at night?

I just barely remember the Christmas star, pretty sure it must have been in the 1968 holiday season. I distinctly remember it rotating. Major, I would really welcome that video since the debate continues to rage, and there is no other way to solve it.
Just simply capital pics today. Did you say these came from an Instamatic? Hard to believe.

JG, no, these are not the Instamatic photos... you can generally tell those because they are more square in format. Today's images are 35mm. Glad you liked these!
