3 From Knott's, 1959

More views from the Berry Farm...

Soft-handed city slickers who always wanted to know the thrill of seeing "color" in a pan full of gold dust-laden dirt could head on over to Knott's and try their luck down in this man-made pit. I wonder how many pounds of gold the park has passed along throughout the years?

Beware of the mule. Or is it a burro? Or a donkey? I really can't tell. Whatever he is, he is cute and likes to have his ears scratched (just like me!). This nice lady is happy to oblige. And while she's scratching...

... her husband has found something that interests him. Nell is showing off her gams, and this fella likes what he sees. Don't take it personally, Belle.

  1. Yay, more vintage Knott's! It looks like the Candy Parlor may have been under construction in that first pic if you look off in the distance between the buildings.

  4. Connie makes a Michael Jackson noise...

TM!, I'll have to take your word for it, since I have nothing intelligent to add (as usual).

JG, I know that I panned for gold all the time, and yet I can only find two of my precious vials of gold dust...

Nancy, unfortunately the gold panning area is now a tiny location that looks completely different, stuck practically beneath a giant roller coaster.

  5. Major,

The amount of gold dust passed through Knotts.

it is exactly 15,989 lbs, 7 ounces and 2 grams as of January 4th 2012.

Of course that will change as of tomorrow. It will be higher.

Wow, that's over 413 million dollars worth of gold in today's prices.

Oh, and 87.3 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot!
