The Hub & Carnation, 1956 (maybe)

I have a couple of fun ones for you today, homies. They date from either May 1956, or from October 1955, since various photos in the same lot (clearly taken on the same day) have different dates on them. These were restored from magenta images with varying degrees of success.

If you're going to take a photo of the family with the castle in the background, it might help if you could actually SEE the castle. Would that be so difficult? You've got mom, big brother Pete, and Margaret (aka "sis"). And some lady with a mink stole.

Margaret is wearing the hell out of that wonderful souvenir hat from the Carnation Corner! Isn't it awesome? I'll bet Matterhorn1959 has some of those.

Margie shows us that driving the Carnation truck is so easy, she can do it with her eyes closed. Or perhaps she is narcoleptic. Either way, it works for me.

We'll see more of this family, including some of Margie almost all growed up at Disneyland!

  2. Major- hate to disappoint you, but I do not own one of those hats. Now if you find one, I would definitely be interested in purchasing it.

Man, have times changed. A woman in a mink stole? Wow. I knew people dressed up for Disneyland in those days but that takes the cake. Neat shot. Thanks for restoring these for us.

  5. Major, that family was trying to prove (with a photo) that they saw Natasha Robinskita at Disneyland! She was a famous Romanian Vampire, known for being able to walk among the living during daylight hours. I know...she's my grandmother.

  6. Ha! Mink Stole...what'd he steal, eh?

Looks like he got caught...and skinned. that'll teach those dirty varmits.

Margaret drives like many I see on the freeway today.

I remember my Dad complaining about cars and how dumb they were, you had to drive them everywhere, compared to his horse, who knew the way home and could pull the buggy there without being told, while Dad napped.

  7. Matterhorn, I am pretty sure one of those Carnation hats was on ebay a year or so ago, and went for big bucks. It's the only one I've ever seen... until now!

Connie, I have known about vampires at Disneyland for years. Of course the best vampires are Romanian ones. I assume your grandmother can still visit for Halloween.

JG, I like the idea of the horse knowing the way home while the driver can sleep!

I hope the mink is enjoying its visit to Disneyland. Personally, I prefer the Disneyland of today. And the people of today too! Crazy me.

  10. hehe farm girl takes pics like I do, closed eyes, bad poses etc. Pretty dress, her mom's that is. Would be neat having one of those souvenir hats but personally I wouldn't pay more than $1... She seems to be enjoying herself except this positng for pictures business and that's what counts. Mink is sure overdoing it! (Poor minks... and it's not like we need fur much in So Cal!)

Well Anon, you're definitely in the majority except nooks like this. Maybe we indulge in too much nostalgia. And maybe others indulge the comforts of thinking ourselves superior to people we don't know and accepting perhaps too much credit for what is directly from or developed upon what is from that Disneyland those people made...

  11. Anon, you're not crazy! If you prefer the Disneyland of today, that is cool.

I love the Disneyland of yesterday, but it's gone, so maybe your way is better.
