Around the Park, February 1960

In today's first picture, we get a look at a tiki that I'm not sure I've seen before. But then again, my memory is so fuzzy since my alien abduction. The tiki bears a resemblance to the Moai of Easter Island, although they were made of volcanic stone, and this one is fashioned from the trunk of a palm tree.

Ever wonder what it would be like to be a horse, tied up to a horse hitch? Neither have I. But this lady has. Behind her, the Matterhorn soars, and the House of the Future peeks out behind two orange trees that are full of fruit.

By law each visitor to Disneyland had to take at least one photo of the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship. Might as well get it out of our system...

Nope never seen that Tiki but if your alien abduction was like mine, Tikis don't look so strange anymore and a body might forget the odd Tiki. But that lady never will forget. Did we see her before? I forget...

Wow look at that crop of oranges! Hm. Matterhorn... oranges? Matterhorn and flying buckets, that's cool but oranges? By the House of the Future Orange Juice.

Neat pirate ship pic and look up pidge - Lady & the Tramp patterned umbrellas!

  2. Yep, Lady and the Tramp. I'm fascinated by the linings of those umbrellas! I think this is the third pattern we have seen now.

Are those hitching posts still in the Plaza?

  3. Love the interior lining of the umbrella and have always liked the Lady and Tramp graphics. Have not seen the tiki before, but the location appears to be off the normal walkways in Adventureland.

Tokyo Magic- the hitching posts are still there, last time I looked.

She looks like my sister! I had to check twice to be sure. Correct age, same cropped pants, same penny loafers, same short-cut hair. I often wonder how weird it would be to see me, or a member of my family, in the background of someone else's photo.

I am 99% certain that tiki is not at Disneyland - based on the surrounding jungle, benches, and change of clothes (same loafers, though). My guess is Knotts lagoon; Marineland; or Busch Gardens. Of course I've been wrong before.

  6. Does anyone know why the Matterhorn is so half white half grey? Is it unfinished or was that just the first paint job???

  7. great picture of the Matterhorn there...and a lot of nice surprises like the POSTERS there at the entrance to Tomorrowland! YAY!

i was wondering also about the snow on the MH, seems like someone dipped it in white paint and left the rest plain

that is one TALL tiki, and is cool no matter where he is from

  8. Michelle, the Matterhorn was less than a year old in this photo, and originally the "snow line" was much higher than it is today. Over the years the "snow" moved further down the side of the mountain.
