Two Pans, One Toad, October 22, 1959

Here are three fun snapshots (got 'em from ebay), nicely dated October 22, 1959 by some careful photographer, and featuring a couple of great dark-ride exteriors.

The beloved Peter Pan attraction is still a huge favorite with everyone. It really does possess a kind of "magic"... I love the pirate ship ride vehicles. And flying out the nursery window over starlit London and on to Neverland - - fantastic! Notice the ride operator dressed as a nursemaid.

Two young ladies, resplendant in their souvenir hats, can barely contain their excitement as they get ready for their own flight.

And lastly, here's a shot at the very end of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. One kid is doing what I always do, turning around for a last glimpse of HELL and the little laughing devils. The other kid is just too cool! He could be asleep. Feet up, arms crossed, I'm not sure he was very impressed at all.

  1. I like the perspective of the mural of being over London. Nice images of scenes that are usually blurry.

  2. In the last picture it's obvious our little friend is miffed that HE didn't get to drive and he's closed his eyes to better contemplate his revenge.

How I loved Hell! As a kid I secretly wished that the entire ride was a trip to the infernal regions! With all the ride repros they're making for Haunted Mansion and Tiki Room, I keep waiting for my own Red Rubber Devil... are you listening Disney Marketing?... Rubber NOT Plush... with the genuine stake smell, please !

Oops, that was a request for a SNAKE smell, not STAKE smell. Haven't had breakfast yet, Freudian slip. KG

Capt. Tomorrow, you must have been a kid at some point. You are right on the money with your comment about the Toad picture. That kid was so burned over not being able to drive that he refused to have fun and decided to prove it to his dad who was trying to take a cute picture. Ha ha.
