We had hoped someone would take it from the place it was rotting and return it to it's former glory.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25922463.post-30771130050610769232012-03-28T17:03:59.706-07:002012-03-28T17:03:59.706-07:00I grew up in Seattle and there was often talk of t...I grew up in Seattle and there was often talk of the Kalakala and its on again/off again restoration plans on the news. I guess I forgot all about it since I moved. I'm sad to hear that it STILL has not been restored and can't even find a buyer for $1. In February of 1928 while crossing from Oakland to San Francisco as many as 40 people were swept overboard by a large wave in rough water. At least 10 and maybe more passengers lost their lives. in May of 1933, the Peralta burned to the waterline while tied up at the Key System pier on the Oakland side of the bay.

See the link for more -

http://www3.gendisasters.com/california/9426/oakland-ca-ferry-peralta-fire-may-1933Roger Coltonhttp://www.theblueparrot.infonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25922463.post-33317325247707825822012-03-18T05:09:19.939-07:002012-03-18T05:09:19.939-07:00so cool, looks like something from outer space...b...so cool, looks like something from outer space...but so sad.Nancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09895614694411482044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25922463.post-64360159587578096612012-03-17T22:01:59.886-07:002012-03-17T22:01:59.886-07:00TM!, Something tells me that Long Beach doesn'...TM!, Something tells me that Long Beach doesn't want another old boat!

Connie, I know! Sad really. Reminds me of what happened to the Great White Steamer that plied the waters between San Pedro (or Long Beach or Los Angeles Harbor) and Avalon on Catalina Island.Irenehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02286032807894115704noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25922463.post-32483591794558327412012-03-17T11:43:02.646-07:002012-03-17T11:43:02.646-07:00It is a very unique-looking vessal. I drove by its hulking, decaying self many a time while it was anchored in Lake Union, waiting for a benefactor to save it from the inevitable, which sadly has occurred. Never had the opportunity to walk its decks, or touch its hull, but I still think of it when I drive around Lake Union.Nanookhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07255357829181568172noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25922463.post-60587105993156819892012-03-17T09:41:28.597-07:002012-03-17T09:41:28.597-07:00What a shame!!!
