    @ Sue-
Thank you for generously-sharing with us your dads incredible photographic talents. I feel safe in saying his body of work will outlive us all - continuing to bring joy to those who discover it here and elsewhere.

Thanks to The Major for providing a platform for Lou's images.

  2. So sad.

I hesitate to leave any comment at all; the title of this post, and the pictures say it all. But there is the need to show respect and gratitude for our friend, Lou. And to comfort our friend, Sue.

We all knew this day would come soon enough, but the grief is still there. I went through the same thing when my mom passed, two years ago. And we have the knowledge that Lou Perry lived a long and fullfilling life. And his, as yet, unpublished photos will continue to be a part of GDB for (probably) years to come; thanks to Sue.

The photo with the "hidden Mickey" in the clouds is especially apt and touching.

Sue, I know it is said often, but the hurt does get better over time.

Thank you, Sue and Major. And thank you very much,
    Lou Perry.

  3. Sue, my deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. And a huge thank you to you and your father, for being so generous and sharing his passion/hobby with us all of these years. Hopefully, it will bring you some kind of contentment, knowing that his legacy will go on for years to come, right here on the internet, and in all of the books that you have both contributed to.

These were a wonderful choice of photos to post on such a sad day. I especially love the first one, showing Lou "in his element," carrying his camera equipment across the pontoon bridge.

Thanks again, Lou, Sue, and Major.

  4. Sue : we all send you and your family love and toast your father with a ceremonial MATTERHORN MACAROON. And a salute to you Sue for your friendship : to think a few years ago I didn’t know you and now I feel like I’ve known you forever.

    God speed Lou!

  7. Sue, my heart is heavy today. Your Dad will forever be with us in his everlasting spirit. Lou, with the help of his wonderful daughter, have shared with all of us the magic of a time years ago, but still deep within all of us. How wonderful that he played his final act on earth as the humble artist of the camera, admired by all of us here, and now, just recently, by the people of the world as a published artist. We should all be so blessed to have a dad who's legacy will live forever, giving joy to (literally) millions. I have no doubt, that he's up there riding the Viewliner, with your Mom...and his camera. XO

Sue, my heart goes out to you on your father's passing. Bringing up the blog this time was not the daily pleasant surprise that I always expect to see. You are, and will continue to be, his devoted daughter. His pictures are a chronicle of his love for the Disney experience that once was. It was something both you and he lived. Your dedication to his work is a testament to his memory. I am pleased to have gotten to know him through you. And I continue to look forward to more insights as they are published. With my sincere condolences, Ken S.

    My condolences, Sue

It is marvelous that Lou was there to document the Park from the beginning, and kept this enthusiasm for seven decades. He was the Happiest Photographer on Earth, and his pictures will keep the magic going for all Disneyland fans.

  18. Sue, I echo all of the statements above. Thank you so much to Lou for all the joy he brought this community and beyond. They say grief is the price of love -- we have all so deeply loved and admired your father's passion for an incredible place that now lives in our memories, and so we all grieve deeply this day. Keeping you in our thoughts, Sue.

Lou lives on in our joy, and will continue to as an artist and historian.
Sue, without meeting him I am absolutely certain of his pride in you, sharing his vision with us. You have all been a MAJOR beacon of fun through dark days and bring an extra sparkle to bright ones. Thank you Lou, for Sue too.

  21. Not sure I can put into words everything I want to say, but I'll try....

This all happened so fast. My dad went on hospice Saturday afternoon; and then peacefully went to Heaven, late last night [to that great big Disneyland in the sky - 1958 Disneyland, as Bu mentioned], while I was with him. Thanks to Major for helping to prepare today's post, a couple days ago, "just in case." Was hoping not to need it so soon.

Everyone's kind words and outpouring of love through today's comments, texts and emails, have meant so much to me. Thank you. Part of me had figured that once my dad passed, I'd maybe not want to, or be able to, continue with sharing his photos, etc. But my dad was thrilled to know everyone enjoyed his pictures, and you've lovingly confirmed it, so we'll keep moving forward. Eventually I want to also share his Disneyland home movies; and I know I also have a cassette somewhere - where [years ago] he recorded his stories about Disneyland experiences, because I had asked him to, 'for posterity's sake.'

Mike, I bet my dad took a picture of it! :o)

Stefano, I absolutely love the title you gave my dad:
    "The Happiest Photographer on Earth"

Love & hugs to all of you.
