Martinez, I have no good excuse, except that there might be werewolves down there.

Nancy, I'm smiling!

OC Native, I'm sure you are right, those sails are expensive, and probably rot away pretty quickly in the Anaheim sun; and it must take some skill to set them correctly, so trained staff would be required. Easier to just forget them!

Melissa, holy crap, if I' known there were talking monkeys I would have gone down there. In spite of the smell!

K. Martinez again, if you had been there really early, you would have received a free car at Carsland (or is it "Cars Land"?).

Kevin, I'm guessing that those might have been used for the "Dixieland at Disneyland" performances... Louis Armstrong and cats like that would play at night!Major Pepperidgehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09843598326995116014noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25922463.post-21571719750701570232012-06-24T12:02:42.196-07:002012-06-24T12:02:42.196-07:00Wonder what event was going on in the second pic t...Wonder what event was going on in the second pic to warrant those megaphone speakers. A cast member hands one out to everyone who goes down there. See what you miss out on when you don't go below the deck.

I must say that for the past 15 years or more, every time I have visited Disneyland which is about once every 1-2 years, the sails have never been down. They have always been up. Has anyone seen the sails down in their visits in the past 20 years? I know they use to have the sails down in the 1960's and early 1970's. Is it cost cutting measure by having the sails up all the time?Orange Co Nativehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14927474175434115305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25922463.post-22350396150038077092012-06-24T06:58:46.372-07:002012-06-24T06:58:46.372-07:00***Smile!*** :-D***Smile!*** :-DNancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09895614694411482044noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25922463.post-83124867566119875852012-06-24T05:53:20.580-07:002012-06-24T05:53:20.580-07:00I was just on The Columbia 3 days ago. Like the Matterhorn, it's unique to Disneyland and I hope it stays that way.

I always go below deck while they're still loading, then head upstairs just before the ship starts moving. For a tall guy, it's cramped down there, but always worth a look around.K.
