Using Up Some Snoozers
I have some real duds for you on this "Stay Away Sunday". Sorry!
This one is probably the nicest of the bunch, and it is still a rather unremarkable shot of Sleeping Beauty Castle. There's Christmas decorations, so that's something. Otherwise... meh!
Disneyland at night! I wish I had tons of good night photos of the park after the sun set. Sadly, this one rates about a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best). There's not much to see here, but if you look through the doorway of the INA Carefree Corner, you can see one of the bookshelves that held registries that guests could sign. I would have signed it with the name "I.P. Daily".
There's SBC again, in this pretty boring photo. I warned you!
Aaaaannnd... Cinderella had a castle at the park too, only hers was tiny, or else it was further away, I'm not sure which.
Sorry about the snoozers!

Major-
Man, you ain't kidding about that poor image of the Sleeping Beauty Castle-! The blue color on the roof is so 'faded', it barely stands out against the cerulean blue sky-! (Not like today's SBC roof - no siree-!) And who would know it was Christmas time, with merely a garland and wreath to celebrate the season-? I think I'll go back to sleep now.
Zzzzzzzzz.... Major.
There is something about today and Christmas. I just now finished watching "Dennis The Menace" on Antennae TV (TV, The Way It Was Meant To Be!) and it was a Christmas episode. Then later today, on the Buzzr Channel, they are showing Christmas episodes of vintage game shows, all day long. And there's even a little bit of Christmas today, on GDB. It's "Christmas In July!" Merry Christmas, everyone!
Those Christmas decorations are pretty sparse, especially compared to today's.
And TokyoMagic, sometimes I wonder about that whole "Christmas in July" thing. I mean, June 25th is the halfway point to the day, so why isn't the occasion celebrated then?
There's something about Christmas in July that I kind of like. I guess having spent my whole life in Texas, where summer means temps constantly hovering around 100, the idea of sitting in the AC watching vintage holiday shows is kind of special. Also, you get a taste of the festivities without having to DO anything; which is nice. I've probably overthought this now... All over some very understated decorations. Or are they simply "tasteful?" Hmmmmmm.....
They may be snoozers, but the commentary definitely makes up for that!

Use 'em or snooze 'em, baby!
The Cinderella castle is s great optical illusion. if I didn't know it was a miniature, I'm not sure I would have guessed it from the image.
Small things that look far away always make me think of the classic bit from Father Ted.
@ Melissa-
A classic, to be sure-!
Any photos of Disneyland are better than none. Ok, so these aren't exactly great, but they are cool, none the less. Forced perspective is found all over the park, but I do believe Cinderella Castle is the best example. I have always thought it would make a great garden feature in my backyard. Thanks Major.
Nanook, I agree, look how crummy Disneyland looked back then! They needed to bedazzle it.
TokyoMagic!, oh man, “Dennis the Menace”? Why hasn’t Quentin Tarantino revived Jay North’s acting career, that’s what I want to know! Christmas is welcome in July because it’s much less over the top. A little taste of it here and there is refreshing!
Penna. Andrew, I like bling I guess, but somehow I like the photos of the old, less-decorated Disneyland. I first was aware of “Christmas in July” from David Letterman! Maybe July feels more like “mid-Summer” than June does.
stu29573, my brother watches a bunch of fishing shows on YouTube, and we’re always surprised at how green Texas is, and how many lakes there are. I always imagined it being so arid! But… it is a big state, I suppose there are multiple “zones” with different weather.
Lou and Sue, hooray!
Melissa, I was reminded of a classic Peanuts cartoon !
Nanook, I guess I’m the only person who has never heard of Father Ted.
Jonathan, I think “forced perspective” is too aggressive, why don’t they call it “nudged perspective”? Please build an exact duplicate of Cinderella Castle in your backyard and send lots of pix!
Oh darn, I didn't see that the comic for Melissa was so tiny on that page (I thought you could click on it). You can read it better HERE.
HERE.
My HTML-fu is weak today
That comic is hilarious!! (And I read it fine at the first link.)
Yeah, Texas has just about every kind of landscape. Fun fact (a real one this time) there are very few natural lakes in Texas. Almost all are man made..
Andrew, that is a good question! Who chose July to do the unseasonable celebrating?
I was in junior high the first time I was ever aware of the "Christmas In July" thing. I went into a Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor with a friend and the place was all decked out with Christmas decorations and they were playing Christmas music. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone. We asked the waitress what was going on and she said, "It's Christmas in July!!!"
Major, that is ALSO a good question. Jay North was much more deserving of a career revival, than John Travolta was! And there is only a two and a half year age difference between the two actors.
LOL, @Tokyo, Farrell's Ice Cream! *thumbs up emoji*
Major, these photos are not dull or boring to someone who grew up on Disneyland before Sleeping Beauty married into the Pepto-Bismol fortune.
Thanks!
JG
