More Pix From Kevin and Amber (Frontierland 1956)
Here are three more scans from slides that were found by pals Kevin and Amber a few months ago. They found them and knew I'd be interested!
This first one is great, a busy, lively look at early Frontierland as seen from the outdoor balcony of the building that housed the Golden Horseshoe Revue. The Gullywhumper is passing by - this one won't tip over because there's a nun aboard. Lots of folks are over on Tom Sawyer Island (which looks pretty barren).
There's Fort Wilderness, looking a bit soft-focus and dreamy.
It's Ernie the Elk! Please make up a mother in-law joke (like Wally Boag would!) about him. I can't think of any good ones.

Major-
Stop me if you've heard these...
I just got back from a pleasure trip. I took my mother-in-law to the airport.
A guy asks his friend:
- Have you talked to the hero, who has saved your mother-in-law from drowning in the river?
- Yes I did. He came and apologized.
The doorbell rang this morning. When I opened the door, there was my mother-in-law on the front step.
She said: "Can I stay here for a few days?"
I said: "Sure you can." And then shut the door in her face.
Do you know the punishment for bigamy?
Two Mothers-in-law.
Usually when you see nuns, there are sailors lurking about. Are they hiding inside the Gullywhumper-?
Major, Kevin & Amber - thanks for these.
Overheard on the Jungle cruise...One cannibal says to the other: "I can't stand my mother-in-law."
The other cannibal says: "Then just eat the vegetables."
Or try the elk.

Ernie the elk's mother-in-law tried to tell him off. He didn't didn't have to say a word back; she got the point.
Sorry... that's all I got.
I think Frontierland changed more from opening to 1960 then any other part of the park. Every year there's something added, removed or otherwise altered.
Great pics! Thanks Kevin and Amber!
Kevin and Amber sure know how to pick 'em. I can't decide which is my favorite today. They're all great in their own way.
The Keelboat image has a nice mud and dirt feel to it which gives the impression of a civilization recently carved out of the wilderness.
I love the backdrop of the Fort Wilderness image. It's as if the fort really is located out there in one of the early American frontier territories of the westward expansion.
Ernie the Elk is another great image. Who doesn't love early Disneyland wildlife (still-life or limited movement) before the days of the more sophisticated audio-animatronics started with the Enchanted Tiki Room.
Thanks you, Kevin, Amber and Major. Hope there's more.
Wow, these are very early pics.
Thanks Kevin and Amber for sharing with the Major.

Nanook, all of those definitely get the WBSA - the "Wally Boag Seal of Approval"! I had no idea that nuns and sailors fraternized - I hope it's all innocent.
Bill in Denver, I can almost see that one as an old New Yorker cartoon!
Tom, well, you had more than me, and you even sort of did a tribute to the Jungle Cruise too, so extra points for that. I agree that Frontierland underwent drastic changes in those first years, which is what makes the early photos so much fun.
K. Martinez, I don't think I'd have ever imagined photos being complimented on their "mud and dirt feel"!! Only with Disneyland, I guess. I have commented on the way some photos - particularly photos from the 1950's - make for a very convincing Frontier, considering that it is the middle of Anaheim.
JG, they didn't just share, they actually let me have the slides!
Thanks for another great round of photos!
Love the ma-in-law jokes.
I wonder if there is a physics law concerning nuns aboard boats? The "nun tip over law" or something? Yes, the sailor nun law or act might've also dealt with the "row, row, row your boat" syndrome.
The Fort Wilderness pic is rife with great atmosphere. I just hope that person on the rocks doesn't jump! It looks like that person is wearing a black jumpsuit/karate robe.
Ernie the Elk. Hmmm... There is something in the image that is quite interesting (I don't know if "disturbing" is the word to use). Ernie seems to have a 2nd tail end, which is quite a bit lighter. Is there a 2nd Elk ("Ernie 2") riding tandem?
Now, if Wally Boag jumped off a cliff, would you do it?

What if Wally Boag's mother-in-law jumped off a cliff?
Thanks again, Kevin and Amber!
