Main Street USA, 1958

Here's a great "POV" shot (or "you are there", as I like to say) of Main Street, seen from inside one of the Surreys. Yes, there is fringe on top. There's another Surrey heading the other way, which is cool. There are signs on the lamp posts heralding the opening of the Grand Canyon Diorama, still one of my favorite things at Disneyland (really). If it wasn't for that castle in the distance, this might pass for a real town still stuck in the early 1900's.

This one is from a different lot, and appears to have been taken from inside Main Street Station (notice the reflections). Or maybe inside one of the old passenger cars of the Disneyland Railroad? Anyway, it's a good look at a bustling Town Square. You are only allowed to buy one item at the little souvenir stand, so choose carefully!

Wow, these are both great photos but that first one is amazing when enlarged!

The second photo is definitely from inside a train car based on the position, which appears to be just above the left entrance tunnel into the park.

So much fun.

There was an old building in Red Bluff CA that looked much like the Emporium. I think it's burned now, but downtown really used to look like that. (I don't remember the horses).

Connie always has something nice to say!

Mike, thank you for clearing that up.

JG, I know there are lots of cute small towns in Northern CA... I looked up Red Bluff on Google Image Search, and now I want to go there.
