Tomorrowland Entrance, November 1960

Boy, am I disorganized! Today's slides are part of a lot that I thought I had finished sharing long ago. But not so fast! I'm sure that many of you will remember Dorothy and her dainty, magical white gloves. She's armed with a movie camera too, what a gal! These photos were taken in November, but should the shadows really be that long at 11-ish (according to the Clock of the World)?? The air is so thick that a straw will stand up in it, but it lends a slightly dreamy appearance to Tomorrowland.

Well, the clock isn't broken, anyway! Now it's around 2 o'clock and some of the haze has lifted. The winter sun is still bright; Dorothy's gloves have come off (probably when she at lunch), but she seems to be afraid to go much further into Tomorrowland. Come on Dorothy, it'll be fun!

That second picture looks like the start of a sketch from Monty Python: The Batley Townswomens' Guild presents the Battle of Pearl Harbour.

They seem to be waiting for a sixth member to join them so that they can begin.

  2. Oh, well I'll count this a lucky find with pleasure.

In the top pic, she is looking marginally happier, and I'd bet it's all thanks to Jimmy Durante, who we can see has just passed by her and is tipping his hat as he's making his humorous way towards tomorrow.

As for the 2nd pic, well Dot can just make way 'cause I'm goin' in. :)

  3. I've missed Dorothy and her purse that needs to be registered as a lethal weapon...

This must have been a pleasantly quiet visit to the park for Dorothy this day, as there was not even one young whipper-snapper in the entire set.

Is the park every really that empty today?!?

I remember when the air was that dense at 10AM...and 11AM...and 12PM. I just assumed it was the fresh sea air. ;)

  7. @Viewliner: Don't let the Dreger Family hear you talk that way about the Knott's Clock.

@Anonymous 2:38; And a happy Masimundus semilonerolri to you too! (I think they're edible anyway.)

  8. Perhaps the white gloves came off after the park passed her inspection! Bet she had a wild time from that point forward.

    Great pics.
